Maria Papageorgiou / Vocalist and Performer
Maria Papageorgiou is a renowned vocalist who has been a vital part of many Anamnesis performances. Her collaboration with director and choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki began in 2005, inspiring her to explore the interplay between voice, vocal expression, and performative arts.
A prolific artist, Maria has released five albums of original compositions (Beautiful and Defeated, Timid Beast, Three Fates, Memory, and The Last Analog Love), as well as the live album 4 Years of Mondays, featuring recordings from over 80 performances at Stavros tou Notou.
Her latest work, Correspondence, a collaboration inspired by Mikis Theodorakis, showcases her reinterpretations of his songs through her unique artistic lens. Beyond music, Maria’s creative endeavors include her 2016 book, A Crack of Panic, a candid narrative about living with panic attacks.
She is also the founder of the musical group HomeBound, performing across Greece at esteemed venues like the Olympia Theatre, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, and the Garden of the Athens Concert Hall.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Maria released the album Esoria, a collection of international repertoire, and became a radio producer for Greece’s Second Program, hosting the show The Songs of Others. In 2023, she presented the critically acclaimed 17 Humble Requiems for the Future, a tribute to Thanos Mikroutsikos that toured major venues throughout Greece.
Maria’s compositions have earned her accolades, including a Best Original Music award at the Cannes Film Festival. She is also a member of the Copernicus group, creating children’s musical-theatrical performances at the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center and the Athens Concert Hall.
With her dynamic artistic vision and ongoing collaboration with Anamnesis, Maria continues to enrich the intersection of music, performance, and cultural heritage.
